August 21, 2006 Red Sox 6, Yankees 3

The Sox manage to salvage 2 wins in the 5 game series with the 6-3 win. Ortiz and Ramirez play Damage Inc. today, accounting for all the scoring. Papi hits a 3-run homer in the 3rd for his 49th of the year, and Manny laces a 2-run shot in the 5th and an RBI double in the 7th. The Yankees finally get to David Wells for 2 runs in the 7th and a run in the 8th, as Wells fairly low pitch count enabled him to go 7 2/3 innings to give the bullpen a bit of a break. Paps comes in, runs into a little trouble in the 9th with two straight walks, but bears down to get save number 28.

The Red Sox currently sit 9 games behind the Blue Jays in the division race, and also 9 games behind Cleveland for the wild card with a little less that 40 games left.
