July 2, 2006 Phillies 8, Blue Jays 5 (11)
Man, this team is something else. 21 hits for the game, with every starter getting at least one hit. One of numerous times that has happened this season. As you can see by the batting averages, the Phillies have no problems hitting the ball. The pitching, however, has been iffy at times. Aaron Fultz, getting a spot start today, shows why he doesn't usually start as the Jays batted around in the first inning scoring 4 runs. They would get one more in the 4th (when Fultz got the hook) for a 5-2 lead. Little did I know at the time that Toronto would not score again the rest of the game! The Phillies then mounted the comeback, scoring twice in the 5th and tying the game in the 7th on a David Bell triple. They blow it open in the top of the 11th, as after the first two batters got outs five successive singles by Burrell, Howard, Bell, Victorino and Dellucci score 3 runs and the Jays go down quietly in the bottom of the 11th. The Phillies sweep the Blue Jays (too bad they couldn't do that back in '93 lol) and extend their lead in the division to 3 1/2 games over the second place Braves.

The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings. Philadelphia ended up
winning it in the 11th inning. After two were out Pat Burrell started the

Victorino followed and he banged out a one-base hit scoring another run.
David Dellucci stepped into the box and smacked a single scoring the final

with 3 runs on 5 hits. Toronto was out-hit by Philadelphia, 21 hits to 11.
The winning pitcher was Fabio Castro(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2 innings.

July 2, 2006 Red Sox 12, Marlins 7 (14)
The Red Sox avoid the series sweep, but just barely. The game never should have even gone to extra innings, with the Sox holding a 7-3 lead after 7 innings, but Hansen and Papelbon combined to blow the lead with a Dan Uggla solo homerun with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th tying the game. The Sox explode for 5 runs in the top of the 14th on only two hits. Alex Gonzales hit a 2-run pinch-hit double, and Alex Cora hit a 3-run double to give the Sox the victory. I will put the play account in after the box score so you can follow everything.

A Jason Bay double in the second inning off Jeremy Bonderman is the only hit that the Pirates can muster for the game, as three Detroit pitchers combine on the one-hitter. Not too often that a team needs almost 150 pitches for a one-hitter!!

defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 3 to 0 at PNC Park.
Detroit started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the
