September 3, 2006 Blue Jays 5, Red Sox 1
| A big 5 run 5th inning would be all the scoring that the Jays would do, but it proved to be enough. The Sox bats were silent most of the game, only getting 2 hits off Gustavo Chacin in 7 innings and finally avoiding the shutout in the bottom of the 9th. Plenty of baserunners though, as Chacin walked 7 and the Sox left 11 on base. The Sox now sit 12 back of Toronto in the division, and 11 back in the wildcard race with 25 games left to play. |

Left fielder Frank Catalanotto hit 2 doubles as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated
the Boston Red Sox by the score of 5 to 1 at Fenway Park.
Toronto delivered all the runs required in the 5th inning when they scored 5
runs on 6 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Gregg Zaun who quieted
the crowd when he smashed a two-run homer (his 7th of the season). Toronto
had 11 hits overall, while Boston had 5.
Gustavo Chacin(5-3) allowed no runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.
Chacin got help from B.J. Ryan who earned his 39th save. The losing pitcher
was Josh Beckett(9-12). He was touched for 8 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings.
