September 2, 2006 Braves 10, Phillies 6
| The Braves rough up 4 Phillie pitchers, scoring in 6 different innings for the 10-6 win in game 1 of a day-night doubleheader. It could have been worse, as catcher Chris Coste threw out 3 runners trying to steal, but Coste wasn't perfect as Edgar Renteria did have 2 steals with the ball thrown over second on one of them for a Coste error and he also committed a passed ball which scored a run. Lost in the shuffle is a nice 3 for 5, 3 RBI day for Shane Victorino. It may be a little too early to be talking about magic numbers, but the Minnesota Twins are the closest with a magic number of 17, and next closest is the Phillies at 23. |

At Citizen's Bank Park the Atlanta Braves easily handled the Philadelphia
Phillies by the score of 10 to 6.
Oscar Villarreal(5-6) pitched well enough to earn the win. He surrendered 10
hits and no walks in 6 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 2 'long-bombs'.
Atlanta simply wore out the Philadelphia pitching staff, scoring in 6
different innings.
Jon Lieber(8-7) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 6 runs and 9 hits in 6 and
1/3 innings.
