August 27, 2006 Mariners 8, Red Sox 5

In an absolutely horrid start for Kyle Snyder, the Sox lose and get swept by the Mariners. Snyder walked 4 straight batters for a run in the first, and just collapsed in the second inning.

Betancourt and Rivera led off the second with consecutive singles. The Mariners tried a double steal, but Betancourt was nailed at third while Rivera went to second for a runner on second and one out. Snyder walks Bloomquist for his 5th walk of the game, and Ichiro rips a single (Ichiro's 200th hit of the year!) to score a run for a 2-0 lead. Snelling then rips a 3-run homer, and Adrian Beltre follows with a solo blast for back to back shots and a 6-0 lead. Snyder got Ibanez to line out for the second out, but after a walk to Richie Sexon I had seen enough and Manny Declarmen comes in. 6 walks, 6 runs, 5 hits in 1 2/3 innings for Snyder.

Declarmen goes 3 1/3 allowing one run (he has been one of my most durable and consistent long relievers) while the Sox try to get back into the game with solo homers by Crisp, Ortiz and Hinske to close the gap to 7-4, but that was as close as they would get.

2-4 on the west coast swing so far, with the AL West leading Oakland A's coming up next.
