August 23, 2006 Red Sox 5, Angels 2
| A big 4 run 8th inning opens up what until the 7th was a scoreless game. Both starters, Jon Lester and Kelvim Escobar were effective, although neither was involved in the decision. The Angels got 2 in the bottom of the 7th on back to back doubles (one off Lester and one off Mike Timlin) and a single for the 2-0 lead, but the Sox come right back. A little small ball and big ball in the 8th, as after a leadoff Javy Lopez single, Gabe Kapler comes in to pinch-run. Alex Cora tries to bunt Kapler over and beats out the bunt to put runners on first and second. Coco Crisp bunts the runners over with the sacrifice, for second and third with one out. Dustin Pedroia, in his second major league game, singles to score both runners to tie the game, 2-2. David Ortiz then rips homerun number 50 of the year for 2 more runs and a 4-2 Sox lead. One more would score in the Sox 9th with a Mike Lowell triple and an error with Lowell scoring. |

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Los Angeles(AL) Angels by a score of 5 to 2 at
Angels Stadium.
Boston had the winning rally in the top of the 8th inning scoring 4 runners on
4 hits. The big moment was provided by David Ortiz who helped quiet the
crowd when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 50th of
the season). The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.
The win went to Mike Timlin(4-2) who allowed 1 run in 2/3 of an inning.
Jonathan Papelbon was credited with his 29th save. The loss was charged to
Francisco Rodriguez(4-4) in relief.
