August 21, 2006 Phillies 13, Cubs 4

The Phillies begin a 4 game series in Wrigley Field with the 13-4 pasting in what is, despite the late calendar date, the first meeting of the year between the Phils and Cubs. The Phils also have not played the Houston Astros yet, and don't play them for the first time this season until September 4th, believe it or not.

Anyway, back to the game. Aaron Rowand rips a first inning grand slam, which opens the floodgates against Cubs starter Rich Hill. Hill's game score for the game was a 5, with his 8 hits, 11 runs, 5 walks and 6 K allowed in 4 2/3 innings.

Despite being outscored by 9 runs, the Cubs shockingly outhit the Phils for the game 13-12! 7 walks for the Cubs pitchers and 10 Cubs left on base made that I am sure rare feat possible, outhitting a team and losing by 9 runs.

In a one-sided affair the Philadelphia Phillies batters pounded the Chicago
(NL) Cubs pitchers for 13 runs while Jon Lieber(8-5)with bullpen help allowed
Chicago (NL) 4 runs.

Jimmy Rollins was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors. He lofted a three-run
'big-fly' (his 25th of the season) in the 4th inning and stroked a single
resulting in a run in the 8th inning. Philadelphia simply wore out the
Chicago (NL) pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.

The loss was charged to Rich Hill(4-4). He served up 3 gopher balls in 4 and
2/3 innings.
