August 5, 2006 Red Sox 3, Devil Rays 1
| David Wells continues to impress, going 7 2/3 innings with a low pitch count only allowing 5 hits and one run, a Travis Lee homerun in the 2nd inning. The Sox score single runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th (with homerun number 46 for David Ortiz being one of them) for a 3-1 lead and that ends up being the final. Brian Meadows certainly gave the Rays a chance to come back, doing his job with 3 2/3 innings of no hit relief, but the Rays couldn't muster any offense against Wellls or Mike Timlin, who gives Papelbon the day off and finishes up for his 4th save. |
