August 4, 2006 Red Sox 9, Devil Rays 5
| Not the prettiest win, but still a win. Curt Schilling strikes out 11 Rays, but makes three mistakes which made the game much closer than it should have been - homers to Damon Hollins, Travis Lee and a 2-run shot by Greg Norton to make the score 5-4 in the 8th. Papelbon came in with one out in the 8th and finished the game for the save. The Sox opened it up in the 9th by scoring 4 with the help of two errors and two wild pitches by the Rays. The Rays do get a run off Paps in the 9th, but it is nowhere near enough. |

Curt Schilling reeled off a total of 11 strikeouts as the Boston Red Sox
outscored the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 9 to 5.
Schilling(13-6) pitched a solid game. He surrendered 6 hits and no walks in 7
and 1/3 innings and surrendered 3 'round-trippers'. Boston finished with 14
hits while Tampa Bay ended up with 9.
Schilling got relief help from Jonathan Papelbon who gained credit for his
26th save. The loss was charged to James Shields(6-6). Schilling was
pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good command of all my
pitches. Just as important, my location was right on.'
