August 17, 2006 Mets 3, Phillies 1
| The Mets sweep the series in an unexpected pitchers duel between John Maine and Scott Mathieson. Maine only allowed 2 hits and a run in 8 innings, retiring 12 straight and 11 straight at two different points in the game. Mathieson did just as well, retiring the first 12 batters to face him, allowing 3 hits and one run while striking out 8 in 7 innings. Mathieson's pitch count started to get a little high so I pinch-hit in the 7th fir him, and Geoff Geary coughs up 2 runs in the 8th to make 3-1 the final. Billy Wagner gets the save for the fourth game in a row, saving every game in the series. |
