August 16, 2006 Mets 5, Phillies 3

A big 4 run 8th inning for the Mets opens up a tight 1-0 game as the Mets beat the Phils for the third straight day. Jon Leiber is the hard luck loser, only allowing one run through 7 but the bullpen, specifically Rick White, cough up the game. The Phillies mounted the comeback, getting a run in the 8th and a two out Chase Utley 2 run homer in the bottom of the 9th but Billy Wagner comes in and strikes out Ryan Howard for the one batter save, his third save in as many days.

The second place Mets have closed the gap to 5 games behind the Phillies, as the Phils have their first 3 or more game losing streak since mid-April. They will try to salvage at least one win in the series next game.
