August 15, 2006 Mets 6, Phillies 5
| Carlos Delgado is a thorn in the Phillies side, as his two homeruns propel the Mets to victory. Five lead changes, as homeruns a plenty account for most of the scoring. After Chris Woodward drops a fly ball for what would have been the third out in the first inning, Ryan Howard blasts a 2-run homer for two unearned runs and an early 2-0 Phils lead. The Mets get a run in the 3rd, and then in the 4th Delgado hits his first homer of the game, a 2-run shot, to give the Mets the 3-2 lead. Mike Lieberthal smacks a 2-run shot in the bottom of the 4th to put the Phils back on top 4-3. The Mets get a sac fly in the 6th to tie it back up, and retake the lead 5-4 in the 7th with Beltran's RBI single. Jimmy Rollins hits a solo homer in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game again, 5-5. But, Delgado's second homer of the game in the top of the 9th puts the Mets back out front, and Billy Wagner pitches a 1-2-3 9th for his second save in as many days. On another subject, I have my first 20 game winner. Johan Santana of the Twins got win number 20 today, beating the Tigers. Santana is 20-3 for the season at this point. Now August 15th seems awfully damn early to get your 20th win. That should tell you how much ass Santana has been kicking. The next closest to 20 is Mike Mussina, who has 15 wins. Four pitchers have 14, including Curt Schilling. |

Carlos Delgado rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Citizen's Bank Park where
the New York (NL) Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 6 to
5.
The game was won by New York (NL) with a run in the 9th inning. After two
outs Delgado blasted a solo shot (his 21st of the season). A wild affair,
this game saw the lead change 5 times.
The win was credited to Roberto Hernandez(4-3) who went 1 and 1/3 innings
allowing 1 run. Billy Wagner earned the save, his 37th. Ryan Madson(4-6) was
given the loss in relief.
