August 14, 2006 Tigers 8, Red Sox 1

Magglio Ordonez whacks a 2-run homer in the first inning for the Tigers, and that would prove to be all the runs that they would need to get the 8-1 win over the Sox. A glorious chance to get back into the game for the Sox in the 5th was wasted. Down 5-1 at the time, they load the bases with none out, and the meat of the order coming up. Loretta strikes out, Papi flies out but not deep enough to score a run, and Manny grounds out for a total of 0 runs in the inning. The Red Sox only got 2 runners the rest of the game as Nate Robertson hurls the complete game.

Craig Hansen shows why he is such a chump, at least in my season. With two out, a run already in and Curtis Granderson on first, he comes in to relieve Josh Beckett in the 6th. Granderson steals second, Craig Monroe singles with Granderson going to third. Monroe then steals second, and Dimitri Young hits a 2-run single. Young then steals second, and that did it for Hansen. 2 batters. 2 hits, and 3 stolen bases. The ultimate in chumpism.

Nate Robertson allowed Jim Leyland to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game and Magglio Ordonez went yard and had 4 RBI as the Detroit Tigers
outscored the Boston Red Sox 8 to 1.

Ordonez had a big day against Boston. He popped a two-run clout over the fence
(his 18th of the season) in the 1st inning, singled which was good for two
runs in the 5th inning and doubled in the 8th inning. Detroit managed 14 in
their victory.

Robertson(8-12) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Josh Beckett(8-10)
was the losing pitcher. He allowed Detroit 7 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings of
work.
