August 12, 2006 Phillies 7, Reds 5
| Down 4-1 entering the bottom of the 5th, the Phillies get 2 in the 5th and a big 4-run 7th capped by a Ryan Howard 3-run blast to take the 7-4 lead. The Reds do make it interesting late, however, as Rich Aurilia gets a solo shot off Fabio Castro in the 8th, and load the bases in the 9th with a single and double off Castro and a walk off Gordon, but Gordon gets 2 pop outs to end the game. The Reds did outhit the Phils 14-10, but 14 LOB for Cincy did them in. Be sure to check out the web gems, as it isn't often that 2 players get robbed of homeruns in the same inning! |

In a two run game the Philadelphia Phillies scored 4 runs in the 7th inning
and got by the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 7 to 5.
Philadelphia brought 4 runs across the plate in the 7th inning with the help
of 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Ryan Howard who elicited a roar from
the hometown fans when he lofted a three-run bomb (his 34th of the season).
Cincinnati threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Brian Sanches(2-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Sanches
got relief help from Tom Gordon who gained credit for his 27th save. David
Weathers(5-6) took the loss in relief.
Charlie Manual was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only
we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not
going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
