| Big Papi gets RBI number 100 and homerun number 48 on one swing of the bat, as solo homers by him and Coco Crisp in the 3rd inning give the Sox the lead that they would never relinquish. Ortiz falls a double shy of hitting for the cycle, as his 3 hits and 3 RBI are a big part of the Sox's 15 hit attack. Curt Schilling and Craig Hansen combine on the shutout, as Schill goes 7 innings allowing only 4 hits for win number 14, almost 1/4 of the Sox win total for the season. |

Boston Red Sox beat the league door-mat Kansas City Royals 6 to 0.
Ortiz had a big day against Kansas City. He laced a one-base hit in the 1st
inning, cracked a solo homerun (his 48th of the season) in the 3rd inning and
tripled scoring two baserunners in the 6th inning. Boston had 15 hits for
the night while Kansas City had 4.
The win went to Curt Schilling(14-6) who allowed no runs in 7 innings.
Runelvys Hernandez(2-4) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk
in 4 and 1/3 innings.
