July 29, 2006 Angels 20, Red Sox 2
| Ugly is the only word to describe this game. Prior to today, the Angels had lost 8 straight. They apparently were really pissed off about it, as they scored 7 runs off Josh Beckett in the first 5 innings and then 13 more runs off a parade of Sox relievers over the final 4 innings to hand the Sox their worst loss of the season. And Manny threw out another run at home, or else it would have been 21-2! Some guys who don't pitch much got some action today due to the score, and now I see why they don't pitch much. Jermaine Van Buren for instance. 2/3 of an inning, 3 runs. Craig Hansen - didn't retire a batter allowing 5 runs and now has a 9.20 ERA for the season. Even normally reliable Mike Timlin allowed 4 runs in 2/3 or an inning. Meanwhile, Jered Weaver goes the distance only allowing 4 hits and 2 runs on just over 100 pitches while the Red Sox needed 204 pitches to get through the game. Ugly, ugly, UGLY!! |

Third baseman Maicer Izturis left the yard and had 4 RBI and Jered Weaver*
pitched 9 strong innings as the Los Angeles(AL) Angels man-handled the Boston
Red Sox - the final score was 20 to 2.
Izturis was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He bombed a two-run dinger (his 8th of the season)
in the 3rd inning, doubled plating a run in the 5th inning and slapped a
one-base hit which scored a run in the 6th inning. Los Angeles(AL) provided
plenty of action in the 6th inning with 5 runs on 5 hits and the 9th inning
with 6 runs on 5 hits. Los Angeles(AL) had many opportunities throughout the
game and scored in 6 separate innings.
The win was credited to Weaver*(6-2) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs.
Josh Beckett(8-7) took the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 5 innings of work.
'He came out with good stuff,' Mike Scioscia said about Weaver*. 'He threw the
ball good from the first pitch on.'
