July 25, 2006 Phillies 8, Diamondbacks 7
| Ryan Howard is the star today, going 2 for 2 with 5 RBI courtesy of a 3-run homer (his 30th), a triple, a sac fly and a walk-off WALK? That's right, after Carlos Quentin homered in the top of the 9th to tie the score 7-all, the Phillies loaded the bases against Brandon Lyon with two out, and Lyon walks Howard to force the winning run home. Neither team had much of an edge this game, as the D-Backs scored 3 runs in the first and so did the Phillies. Arizona scored 3 more runs in the 3rd inning - so did the Phillies. The Phils got one in the 4th and led until the 9th, when the excitement happened. |

Philadelphia Phillies won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over Arizona Diamondbacks
at Citizen's Bank Park pulling it out in their last at bats, 8 to
7.
Philadelphia scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. After an out was
recorded, Jimmy Rollins delivered a one-base hit. One out later, Bobby Abreu
stepped up to the plate and he was walked intentionally. Pat Burrell then
slapped a base-hit to load the bases. Ryan Howard was up next and he drew a
walk making Philadelphia the victor and beginning a joyous home town
celebration. Philadelphia had a total of 11 hits for the game.
The victory was credited to Tom Gordon(3-3) who went 1 inning, allowing 1 run.
Brandon Lyon(3-7) was the loser in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and 2 walks
in 2/3 of an inning.
