July 23, 2006 Mariners 8, Red Sox 0

No comeback this time, as Jarrod Washburn pitches a gem. If not for Coco Crisp, the Sox would have been no-hit! Crisp singles with one out in the 6th to end the no-no bid, and hit a single in the 8th, the only 2 hits for the Sox in the game. Washburn walked back-to-back batters in the 9th and was relieved, so he couldn't quite get the shutout. Sox lose 2 of 3 in the series against the Mariners.

Jarrod Washburn carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning and Raul Ibanez
homered and had 5 RBI as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Boston Red Sox 8
to 0 at SAFECO Field.

The Seattle fans enjoyed the offense provided by Ibanez. He doubled bringing
in two baserunners in the 1st inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park
(his 24th of the season) in the 5th inning and singled which was good for two
runs in the 6th inning. Seattle had 14 hits for the afternoon while Boston
had 2.

Washburn(6-6) allowed no runs in 8 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the victory.
The left-handed Washburn lost his no-hit bid when Coco Crisp singled with
one out in the 6th inning. The losing pitcher was Jon Lester(3-3).

The Seattle ballclub's record now stands at 45-53. With the loss, Boston has
a record of 6-4 lately, 49-48 overall.
