August 2, 2006 Red Sox 8, Indians 7
| Hard fought win today, as the lead changed hands 4 times and the Sox blew a 5-0 lead at one point. The Indians threatened in the 9th getting two runners on against Papelbon, but he was able to squelch the rally. Little bit of a different lineup today. Mark Loretta has been in a horrid 2 for 36 slump (even with still batting .294) prior to today, so I decided to knock him down to the 7 spot and put Youkilis 2nd. That move paid off immediatly, as in the first inning Crisp singled and Youk ripped a 2-run homer, part of a 3 RBI day with a double knocking in the other run. Loretta got a 2-run double out of that 7 hole, as everybody but Doug Mirabelli had at least one hit. He and Casey Blake were the only two starters today for both teams who didn't have a hit. |

First baseman Kevin Youkilis hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI as the
Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians by a score of 8 to 7.
Julian Tavarez(4-0) did what was required of him in relief and came away with
the win. He was reached for 4 hits and 1 walk in 2 and 1/3 innings.
Cleveland threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Tavarez got help from Jonathan Papelbon who was credited with his 25th save.
Jeremy Sowers(0-4) took the loss. He allowed 11 hits and 2 walks in 6 and
1/3 innings.
Eric Wedge was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
