August 1, 2006 Indians 2, Red Sox 1
| Jason Johnson pitches well enough for his second Sox win, but drops to 1-2 in a Sox uniform as the lack of run support did him in. The only Sox run of the game came in the 6th, as an error and a single and error (both errors by C.C. Sabitha, who otherwise pitches a great game) poke one across. Although, they had a chance in the 8th to tie it. In the bottom of the 8th, Alex Gonzales doubles with one out. He is only a 12 running, so I bring in the only guy on the bench with any decent speed, Gabe Kapler who is a 14 runner, to pinchrun. Next batter Coco Crisp laces a single to right with a 1-15 chance that Kapler will score. I go for it to tie the game, and it comes up a 20!! Hell, even Rickey Henderson would have been out on that one. Crisp does go to second on the throw, but Loretta flies out to end the inning. They go down quietly in the 9th, even with the meat of the order up, Ortiz, Ramirez and Youkilis. |

C.C. Sabathia(10-4) and Jason Johnson(4-8) treated the Boston fans to a fine
pitching duel at Fenway Park. The Cleveland Indians eventually emerged as
victors over the Boston Red Sox by the score of 2 to 1.
Sabathia was very good in the win. He didn't allow much, just 4 hits and 1
walk in 7 and 2/3 innings. Jason Davis was perfect in relief and got the
save, his 3rd.
