| The Phillies get back on the winning track, as Chase Utley has a 4 for 4 day with 2 homeruns. The top of the 9th proved interesting, as with one out Freddy Sanchez singled but was picked off first by Tom Gordon for the second out. The next batter Bautista reached on an error, and he was also promptly picked off by Gordon for out number three to end the game. First time I can remember two pickoffs with two consecutive batters. |

Second baseman Chase Utley ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Philadelphia
Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 4 to 3 at Citizen's
Bank Park.
Utley made sure the Philadelphia fans enjoyed themselves. He delivered a solo
blast in the 1st inning, ripped a base-knock in the 3rd inning, smashed a
two-run homer (his 15th of the season) in the 5th inning and lined a single
in the 7th inning. Pittsburgh had a chance to come back in the 9th but they
came up short.
Jon Lieber(5-3) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. Tom Gordon earned
the save, his 15th. Ian Snell(4-6) suffered the loss.
Jim Tracy was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our guys
had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one. That
is what really ticks me off!'
