July 6, 2006 Devil Rays 10, Red Sox 3




Tim Wakefield gets lambasted by the Rays, allowing 8 runs on 8 hits (4 of those homeruns) in only 2 1/3 innings, dropping his record to 5-10 for the season. Julian Tavarez stopped the bleeding however, with 3 2/3 innings of one hit, shutout relief immediately after relieving Wake.

All the Sox scoring came on homeruns, with 2 for Big Papi and Mike Lowell busting out of a 3 for 33 slump with a homerun.

Ty Wigginton smacked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays
defeated the Boston Red Sox by a score of 10 to 3 at Tropicana
Field.

Wigginton made sure the Tampa Bay fans enjoyed themselves. He lofted a
solo-blast 'downtown' in the 2nd inning and cleared the fences for a two-run
home run (his 19th of the season) in the 8th inning. Tampa Bay had 13 hits
for the night while Boston had 6.

James Shields(5-3) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 5 and 2/3
innings. Tim Wakefield(5-10) was tagged with the loss. He served up 4 gopher
balls in 2 and 1/3 innings.
