June 30, 2006 Marlins 8, Red Sox 7
| After the first 3 innings, it looked like the Sox were on cruise control with a 6-0 lead. Coco and Manny had solo homers in the first, and the Sox got 4 runs in the 3rd courtesy of an RBI single, a sac fly and 2 bases loaded walks. Jason Johnson couldn't hold that 6 run lead, however, as the Marlins would score 7 unanswered runs to lead 7-6 after 5. Going into the bottom of the 9th, the score is 8-7 Marlins. Two outs, runner on first. Joe Borowski, on what shopuld have been the thrid out, makes an error to give the Sox some life to put the tying run at third. Pinch hitter Alex Cora hits a deep fly caught at the wall by Jack Willingham as the Marlins hold on for the victory. |

WEB GEMS- Bot 5th: Alex Gonzalez robbed Cody Ross of a base hit.
One run was the difference at Dolphins Stadium as the Florida Marlins defeated
the Boston Red Sox 8 to 7.
Boston was unable to recover after Florida went ahead in the bottom of the 5th
inning scoring a single run using 2 hits. Boston threatened in the 9th but
Florida was able to put down the rally.
Dontrelle Willis(7-3) picked up the victory, allowing 6 runs in 7 innings.
Willis got help from Joe Borowski who was credited with his 22nd save. Jason
Johnson(3-7) was the loser. He was unable to control the Florida offense and
allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.
'You have to give Boston credit, they fought us tough to the end' Joe Girardi
said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the
victory.'
