June 28, 2006 Red Sox 8, Mets 3
| Jason Varitek's 3-run homer and Mark Loretta's 2-run shot, both off old friend Pedro Martinez, help propel the Sox to the 8-3 win. Two of the three Met runs came on an inside-the-park homerun by Paul Lo Duca, one of the few inside the park jobs that I have had. |

The Boston Red Sox had very little trouble at Fenway Park downing the New York
(NL) Mets. The score was 8 to 3.
Boston jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they tallied 2
runs on 2 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Mark Loretta who thrilled
the crowd when he smashed a two-run homer (his 5th of the season). Boston
ended up with 10 hits for the game while New York (NL) had 6.
The win was credited to Josh Beckett(6-5) who went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing
3 runs. Pedro Martinez(5-5) absorbed the loss. He was unable to control the
Boston offense and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
