June 20, 2006 Nationals 10, Red Sox 4
| The red hot Nationals, 12-3 in their last 15 games, put a pasting on the Red Sox partly thanks to an unlikely source. Livan "Suckass" Hernandez actually pitched a decent game, only allowing one run until Mirabelli doubled in a couple in the 6th. That was the only good thing that Mirabelli did all day, as he twice threw over second base trying to throw out Soriano stealing for two errors, and also had a passed ball that scored a run. It all fell apart for the Sox in the 5th. Already down 4-1, I was hoping to get at least 5 innings out of Wakefield due to the overworked bullpen still recovering from that 18 inning game a few days ago. But, when Marlon Anderson singled, Ryan Zimmerman doubled, Robert Fick singled to score Anderson and Wake already over 100 pitches, I had to pull him to stop the bleeding. Rudy Seanez comes in, but the bleeding continues. Royce Clayton doubled to score Zim, Mirabelli had his passed ball, and Brian Scneider had an RBI single. Things settled down after that, but the game was pretty much over at that point. The Nats left 15 on base for the game, and 10 LOB for the Sox. Choking in the clutch was costly this game. |

Royce Clayton collected 2 extra-base hits and had 2 RBI as the Washington
Nationals defeated the Boston Red Sox by a score of 10 to 4 at Fenway
Park.
In the 3rd inning Washington went on top for good with 2 runs on 4 hits.
Alfonso Soriano led off and keyed the rally when he lined a base-hit. Frank
Robinson then called for a steal which was successful. Jose Vidro then
banged out a single knocking in a run. After an out was recorded, Marlon
Anderson came up and he laced a single. Ryan Zimmerman came to the plate and
banged out a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. Washington
lit up the scoreboard in the 5th inning when they had 4 runs on 6 hits.
Washington had 20 hits for the game and Boston had 10.
Livan Hernandez(4-9) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 6 and 1/3
innings. Hernandez got relief help from Saul Rivera who gained credit for his
1st save. Tim Wakefield(5-7) was given the loss. His ERA increased from
4.93 to 5.29 as he allowed 7 runs in 4 innings.
