June 17, 2006 Phillies 10, Devil Rays 7

The Phillies offense runs on all cylinders again, scoring double digits for the fourth consecutive game. The last game that I blogged, I said that game was the second straight. Actually, that was the third straight, as the game before that 15-10 loss I played a few days before (a 10-5 win) I had forgotten about. Oops.

Scott Mathieson had his major league debut, and was on the hook for the loss going 5 1/3, allowing 6 hits. 6 runs and 5 walks. The Rays jumped out in front 1-0 on an Aubrey Huff homerun in the top of the 2nd, but the Phillies scored 4 for a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Abraham Nunez singled, and a 2-base throwing error by Damon Hollins allowed the runners on 2nd and 3rd to score. Sal Fasano added a 2-run homer. The Rays took the lead back in the top of the 4th, as after getting the bases loaded Mathieson makes an error to score a run, throws a wild pitch to score another run, and Julio Lugo's 2-run double gives Tampa the 5-4 lead.

A wild pitch by Ryan Franklin scores another run in the top of the 6th giving the Rays the 6-4 lead, but then the Phillie offensive machine went to work. Abraham Nunez gets an RBI groundout to make it 6-5 in the 6th. Phils take Mathieson off the hook with 2 in the 7th on a David Bell sacrifice fly and a Ryan Howard double for the 7-6 lead. A 3-run Bobby Abreu homer in the bottom of the 8th puts the nail in the casket, and 10-6 is the final.
