June 16, 2006 Phillies 10, Devil Rays 5

The Phillies score double digits for the second straight game, with a much better outcome this time. Cole Hamels remains undefeated in his major league career, uping his record to 4-0.

Tampa jumped out to a 4-2 lead after 3 1/2, but the Phillies exploded for 3 runs in the 4th on a Pat Burrell 3-run homer, and added 4 more in the 5th on Shane Victorino's 2-run pinch-hit double and Chase Utley's 2-run homer to put the game out of reach. Utley continues his recent torrid hitting (10 for his last 19 with 3 homeruns). Pinch hitters did well today, with Victorino's double and Russell Branyan with a pinch-hit homer in garbage time in the 9th for the Rays.

The Phillies remain in first in the NL East, 1 1/2 games ahead of the Mets.

In a lop-sided win the Philadelphia Phillies ripped the Tampa Bay Devil Rays
by a 10 to 5 count.

Tampa Bay was unable to recover after Philadelphia went ahead in the bottom of
the 5th inning as they scored 3 runs on 2 base hits. The key at-bat was by
Pat Burrell who came through for the home fans when he smacked a three-run
homer (his 17th of the season). Philadelphia banged out 12 on the night.

Cole Hamels(4-0) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. James
Shields(3-1) took the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 5 innings and saw his ERA
jump from 2.21 to 3.91.
