| This slugfest had it all. You name it, it happened this game. 6 lead changes, runs scoring on errors, double steals and catchers interference calls, a grand slam, and pitchers hitting homeruns. Definitely one of the strangest games I have ever had. The Mets jumped out to a 6-2 lead after 3 innings after pitcher Steve Trachsel blasted a 3-run homerun and Sal Fasano threw a ball into the outfield on a second and home double steal attempt to score a run. The Phillies came right back, taking a 7-6 lead scoring 5 in the bottom of the 4th capped by Pat Burrell's 3-run homer. The teams swapped the lead back and forth until eventually the game was tied at 10 after 9 innings. It all fell apart for the Phillies in the 11th, as with 2 out and the bases loaded, Jose Reyes advances the runners on a catchers interference call against Chris Coste to let the go ahead run score. With the bases still loaded, the next batter Endy Chaves blasts a grand slam homer off Geoff Geary to put the game out of reach. Interleague play begins next, with the Phillies playing the Devil Rays and Yankees at home, and a 9 game road trip to Boston, Baltimore and Toronto. What is funny is that four of those teams have been world series opponents for the Phillies at one time or another in the five that they have been to. The Red Sox in 1915, Yankees in '50, Orioles in '83 and Blue Jays in '93. |

It was an exciting day game in Citizen's Bank Park where the New York (NL)
Mets finally out-lasted the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 15 to 10 in a
11 inning affair.
Both teams were tied at 10 runs apiece after nine innings. New York (NL) was
victorious in the 11th inning. The big moment was provided by Endy Chavez
who silenced the crowd when he quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam
(his 3rd of the season). New York (NL) lit up the scoreboard in the 2nd
inning with 4 runs on 5 hits and the 11th inning plating 5 runs. This was a
game of many highs and lows for the home town fans, as the lead kept changing
- 6 times in all.
Aaron Heilman(5-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 3 innings. Arthur
Rhodes(1-4) absorbed the loss in relief. He was the victim of a defensive
lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
