June 13, 2006 Phillies 3, Mets 1

The Phillies play their first home game in almost two weeks, and it is a doozy.

Ryan Madson has a good start for the Phils, going 6 only allowing 2 hits and one run. The one run came in the 6th inning on a bases loaded wild pitch. Meanwhile, Mets starter Tom Glavine is pitching a gem, only allowing 2 hits and no runs through 7 innings.

Glavine began to tire in the 8th, as Ryan Howard and Aaron Rowand hits back-to-back homeruns in the 8th to chase Glavine from the game. The Phils would add one more in the 8th on a Jimmy Rollins single. The Mets make a little noise in the 9th off Gordon, getting two straight singles after Gordon had struck out the first two batters of the inning, but Julio Franco fouls out to end the game.

As an added bonus, the win moves the Phillies past the Mets and back into first place in the NL East.

Ryan Howard blasted a homerun as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the New
York (NL) Mets by the score of 3 to 1 at Citizen's Bank Park.

New York (NL) lost it in the 8th inning when Philadelphia did all their damage
with 3 runs on 4 hits. Howard got things rolling when he delivered a solo
blast (his 19th of the season). Aaron Rowand next to the plate and he
smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 5th of the season). After an out
was recorded, Sal Fasano came up and he reached on an error. David Dellucci
followed and he drew a walk. Jimmy Rollins stepped into the box and stroked
a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. The teams had been
locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.

Aaron Fultz(4-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2/3 of an inning and
allowing no runs. Fultz got relief help from Tom Gordon who gained credit for
his 13th save. Tom Glavine(4-5) was given the loss. He gave up only 4 hits
and no walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.
