June 11, 2006 Red Sox 2, Rangers 0

Josh Beckett gives the bullpen the day off tossing a 4-hitter with 12 strikeouts in game 1 of a doubleheader, easily the best start for a Sox pitcher this season. Both Sox runs came in the 4th on consecutive RBI singles by Willie Harris and Alex Gonsalez. The Rangers only got a runner to third base twice the entire game, as Beckett was in the groove today. Only the 2nd win so far in June for the Red Sox, who are 2-8 for the month so far.

Josh Beckett mowed down 12 Texas batters at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox
beat the Texas Rangers 2 to 0.

Beckett(5-4) was tremendous on the mound for Boston. He allowed only 4 hits
and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 4.39. Neither team managed to
score after the 4th inning.

Kevin Millwood(8-5) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 6 innings giving up 5
hits and 2 walks. When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Beckett
offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the
strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy this
afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
