July 2, 2006 Red Sox 12, Marlins 7 (14)

The Red Sox avoid the series sweep, but just barely. The game never should have even gone to extra innings, with the Sox holding a 7-3 lead after 7 innings, but Hansen and Papelbon combined to blow the lead with a Dan Uggla solo homerun with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th tying the game.

The Sox explode for 5 runs in the top of the 14th on only two hits. Alex Gonzales hit a 2-run pinch-hit double, and Alex Cora hit a 3-run double to give the Sox the victory.

I will put the play account in after the box score so you can follow everything.

Left fielder Manny Ramirez had 4 hits and scored 3 times at Dolphins Stadium
where the Boston Red Sox beat the Florida Marlins in 14 innings 12 to 7.

The score was tied at 7 after nine. Boston ended up winning it in the 14th
inning. The big moment was provided by Alex Cora who silenced the stadium
when he doubled plating all three baserunners. Boston finished with 18 hits
while Florida ended up with 14.

The win was credited to Rudy Seanez(4-1) who went 2 innings allowing no runs.
Renyel Pinto(0-1) suffered the loss in relief. He allowed Boston 5 runs in 2
innings of work.
