May 30, 2006 Phillies 6, Nationals 5
| For the second straight game, the Phillies win in their final at bat. After the Phils jumped out to a 5-1 lead off of Tony Armas Jr., the Nationals came back in the 7th to tie the game on a Soriano homer, Marlon Anderson's 2-run double and an RBI single for Brian Scheider. In the bottom of the 9th, a Chase Utley single, Bobby Abreu double and an intentional walk to Ryan Howard load the bases. Sal Fasano, who scored the winning run in yesterday's game and had just come into the game in the top of the 9th, rips a single scoring Utley and clinching the win. That 5-run outburst by the Nats to tie the game took Armas Jr. off the hook, as had he gotten the loss he would have dropped to 0-9 for the season. Also, I was incorrect last game in saying that it was the first meeting between the Nats and Phils, as they played a series back in April. The Phillies are now 5-0 against the Nationals so for this season. The Phillies are now tied for second with the Mets, only 1/2 game back of the division-leading Florida Marlins. |

Pat Burrell had 3 base hits as the Philadelphia Phillies won a dandy at
Citizen's Bank Park over the slumping Washington Nationals, 6 to
5.
Philadelphia won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Chase
Utley drew a walk. Bobby Abreu was next and he doubled. Burrell was a
strikeout victim, unable to help out. Ryan Howard came up and he was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Sal Fasano stepped into the box and smacked
a single making Philadelphia the winners and sending the 30,351 fans home
happy. Philadelphia had a total of 12 hits for the game.
The victory went to Geoff Geary(4-1) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Jon
Rauch(2-4) was charged with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings
and surrendered 3 hits and 2 walks.
