May 25, 2006 Devil Rays 11, Red Sox 10
| The Red Sox should never, NEVER have lost this game. The Rays did jump out in front in the first, 2-0, but in the bottom of the first the Sox send 11 men to the plate, scoring 7 runs off Doug Waschter to take the 7-2 lead. Sox starter Josh Beckett barely went the 5 inning required to get the win that did not happen, as he was over 100 pitches after 5 with 6 walks. The two teams swapped runs here and there until entering the 8th inning, the Sox led 9-4. Rudy Seanez came into the game in the 6th, striking out the side and only allowing a walk in the 7th. He walked two with a strikeout in between in the 8th, and Keith Foulke came into the game. Foulke promptly allows a 3-run homer to Jonny Gomes to make the score 9-7, Sox still in front. Boston got a run back in the bottom of the 8th on a Youk double and Loretta single to make it 10-7. In the bottom of the 9th, I left Foulke in the game and he allows a single by Ty Wiggington and a Greg Norton 2-run homer to make the score 10-9. Fianlly, I had to bring Papelbon into the game to try to end it, as so far this season he was 13 for 13 in save chances. However, Travis Lee would double and Russell Branyan hits a 2-run homer to give the Rays the 11-10 lead, and that would be the final. To sum it up, the Red Sox blow a 5 run 8th inning lead as the Devil Rays score 3 runs in the 8th and 4 in the 9th to steal away the win. |

Ty Wigginton slammed a homerun at Fenway Park as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays
pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the Boston Red Sox by the count of 11
to 10.
Tampa Bay had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning as they scored 4
runs on 5 base hits. The key at-bat was by Greg Norton who quieted the crowd
when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 2nd of the
season). Tampa Bay won despite being out-hit by Boston 16 hits to 12.
Shawn Camp(1-1) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Camp got help from Tyler Walker who earned his 4th save. Jonathan
Papelbon(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.
Terry Francona was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not
in the mood for questions, but I'm sure Joe Maddon will be glad to talk about
the game as long as you have questions to ask.'
