April 23, 2006 Phillies 9, Marlins 7
| 5th straight win for the Phillies, as they have come along nicely since that 2-10 start to the year. The Marlins made it interesting in the 9th scoring 3 runs off Johan Santana, as Tom Gordon comes in to finally get his first save of the year. Old friend Hanley Ramirez had a good day for the Marlins, with 2 homers, 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Historically in my SOM, the Phillies have always started off slow. 2-10 this year, 6-12 last year, 15-30 in 2004, and something like 10-25 in 2003. They seem to always get hot and get over .500, making the playoffs every year but last year. |

Abraham O. Nunez had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the Florida Marlins by a score of 9 to 7 at Citizen's Bank
Park.
Philadelphia had 4 runs cross the plate in the 5th inning when they had 3 base
hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Nunez who made the home-town
crowd a happy bunch when he laced a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners.
Florida threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Brett Myers(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 7 innings. Myers
got relief help from Tom Gordon who gained credit for his 1st save. The
losing pitcher was Randy Messenger(1-1) in relief.
'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us today' Joe Girardi said.
'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to take.'
